One of the hard truths dog owners have to live with is knowing that they’re going to outlive their pets. As much as they want these beautiful creatures to live for decades, they know that’s not possible. Dogs can live up to two decades, give or take.
As heartbreaking as this is, the most humans can do for their pets is to make the most out of every day with them. This means feeding them, playing with them, cuddling with them, bathing them, taking them to the vet, and spending as much time as possible with them. Taking lots of photos and videos is also important to preserve the moments we get to spend with them.
A heartwarming post
Jessica Coker had no idea her Facebook post would go viral when she wrote it in 2019. The 28-year-old shared her thoughts about her 10-year-old dog Moose getting older. Coker had just noticed how slow her dog had gotten at the time of writing. It was only that time that it dawned on her that Moose was no longer the youthful and energetic dog he once was.
Coker met Moose while volunteering at a veterinary clinic. He was still a puppy then. She got to bring him home when she graduated high school, and they have been inseparable ever since. Coker went on to talk about how Moose was almost like her shadow; he would make it a point to be by her side no matter what.
A gentle reminder
Those who read Coker’s post took it as a reminder to treasure each moment they get to spend with their dogs. It made them realize that dogs have fewer days here on earth than all of us. We should shower them with lots of love and affection because that’s what they deserve.
