Often times you hear the phrase ‘Dog is Man’s Best Friend’, why is it? Why do dogs hold such a special place in their owners life? And why do they get so attached to their owners? Well, you will get the answer to this in the wonderful story of Milo and Jacob
Jacob, a teenager who lived in Southern California adopted a little puppy whom he named Milo. Milo was about 5 weeks old at the time and was a vulnerable little fur-ball. Jacob would spend a lot of time playing with Milo and feeding him. He used to train him everyday and provide treats always. They would go on long walks during the weekend and play fetch in the parks. Milo always made Jacob happy. Whenever Jacob had a hard day, Milo would sense it and curl up in his arms. Jacob knew that no matter what, Milo will always be by his side.
Years went by and Jacob turned in to a young man while Milo, the little puppy became a big fluffy dog. Milo and Jacobs bond became unbreakable, they were the best of friends. Jacob built up a doggy door of Milo’s size on his main door so Milo could easily enter and leave the house when Jacob was not around. After Jacob would be back from work, he would surprise Milo with his favorite treats, Milo loved them and would rush to the door wagging his tail whenever he heard Jacobs footsteps.
One evening Jacob did not return home, it was past his usual time and Milo was anxiously waiting on the porch. Night came, still there was no sign of Jacob. Milo did not budge from where he was, waiting for his best friend. Two days went by and Jacob was nowhere to be seen. Little did he know that Jacob got in to an accident at work and was deceased.
On the third day, after three days of waiting at the same spot, Milo started searching for Jacob. He followed his sense of smell and kept on walking. Days went by searching, Milo would drink water from puddles but he would reject any food offered to him. People thought he was a lost dog and tried to help, but he avoided any help and was firm on finding Jacob.
After two weeks of searching, Milo got hold of a strong fragrance of Jacob, he followed it and the fragrance led him to a grave which was a few miles from their home. Milo knew his best friend was no more and he was sobbing with his tired and sleepy eyes and cried out a mournful howl.
The caretaker of the cemetery heard the noise and came by. He offered Milo food and water but Milo refused to eat or drink. He sat there, beside Jacobs grave day and night mourning the loss of his dear friend. After a week of lying beside Jacob without food and water, Milo passed away, and his grave? It was beside Jacobs. That day it was proven that no matter what, Milo would always be by Jacobs side.
This beautiful story of a dog and his owner touches the heart of anyone who reads it. And this is the story that proves, ‘Dog is indeed man’s best friend’.
