Losing a pet can be devastating. When a pet dies, you may feel that the world is closing in on you. But eventually, you may find ways to recover.
However, some dog owners find it more devastating when their dogs get lost. Their missing status is a big question mark every day. There is no certainty that their pet will come home. And there may be times when they may cling to false hopes.
There are still optimistic cases, though! A family lost their two-year-old pug named Piper, and everyone didn’t know what would happen next. It happened during the holiday season, and their festivity was almost destroyed.
Carter Licata, one of the family’s kids, was especially devastated, as he had a special bond with the pug.
The unthinkable happened
April Licata allowed her dogs, which included Piper, to go outside to use the bathroom. When she opened the door to let the dogs in, she discovered that Piper was nowhere to be seen.
The family started a thorough search. They posted notices on social media. They talked to their neighbors. And they prayed hard for the dog’s safe return.
Days turned to weeks, and still, the dog never came back. It was the holidays, and none of the kids didn’t want something to do with the home’s decoration and Christmas tree.
But things were about to turn an unexpected turn.
Just when things started to look hopeless, April received a message from the Genesee County Animal Shelter. A dog that matched Piper’s description had been brought to the shelter by someone who wanted to stay anonymous.
April said they were shocked and elated. Carter, April’s son, was not with them when the news reached them. But they decided to keep it a secret to surprise the boy.
On their reunion day, Carter saw his best friend in the truck’s front seat. When Carter saw him, he broke down in tears. Piper’s tail wagged crazily, a sign that he was also excited to see his human once again.
