Thea and Eric, a couple from the Philippines, have so much love in their hearts for Ginger, their Golden Retriever mix. Although that was the case, something in them moved them to create space for another dog. Good as their intentions were, Ginger wasn’t too happy about it. She would snarl at any pooch her owners would plan on buying.
All that gnarling and snarling ended when they introduced Ginger to Kimchi, a senior Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The couple was expecting the Golden Retriever to give the pup a hard time, but that didn’t happen. Instead, she kept wagging her tail and licking the dog’s face.
The gift of sight
After seeing Ginger’s reaction, the couple decided on adopting the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, whom they eventually named “Kimchi.” They were thrilled to see Ginger shower him with wet kisses when they brought him home.
Since Kimchi had already lost his eyesight, the couple decided on getting Ginger to be his service dog. They started by tying his leash to Ginger’s to prevent him from wandering by himself. The Golden Retriever seemed to understand what was happening then. She embraced her role as Kimchi’s “eyes.”
Ginger was helping the blind senior dog go down the stairs one day when the couple took videos of them. Little did Thea and Eric know that it was going to be a huge hit moments after they posted it online. It received so much attention that they got invited to guest in a lot of TV shows in the United States.
They were also offered a chance to star in “Dogs,” a Netflix documentary series. Unfortunately, Ginger crossed the rainbow bridge before they could even start shooting.
Albeit pained by his best friend’s death, Kimchi decided to honor her life by being a therapy dog. His best friend may no longer be around, but he still feels her guiding him every single day.
