A young family living in a Korean suburb rescued a stray dog from a shelter. From what they have learned, the dog was kept inside a cramped cage for most of her life. So when the poor pooch finally got a chance to live with a loving family, she was so grateful.
The dog, named Seori, adored her new dad and would always be by his side. She loved playing in the big yard with him, relishing the open space. Something that she did not have before. The family, including the kids, loves her and gave her all the attention she needed.
But the family didn’t know that when they were gone, the dog did some exploring by herself.
Some of the family’s neighbors told them that they sometimes see Seori walking around the neighborhood. They were shocked to hear this as they know that there was no way that the dog can go out. The gate is always locked and there is a two-meter wall around their property. They couldn’t imagine how the medium-sized dog could get out.
As it turned out, Seori was very athletic. She could easily jump over the wall. And she does this every time her dad leaves the house. She misses her dad so much that she goes over the wall and tries to look for him. When she doesn’t find him, she goes back home by jumping over the wall again.
To fix the situation, the dad added four more rows of concrete square blocks. This almost doubled the height of the wall. But it didn’t matter. Seori was still able to jump over it.
So they decided to seek the help of an animal behaviorist.
The expert told them that they need to train the dog to think that the dad would never leave and would always be around. So they devised a plan. The dad would go out the gate and he would come back using the rear door.
This way, when Seori sees his dad going out the front gate, she would think that she left. But then the dad, who came back in, would call to her. They would do this repeatedly until the dog thinks that her dad never left.
Hopefully, the trick would work and Seori wouldn’t try to go out anymore.
