A lot of huge dog breeds fall victims to prejudice. Some people think that just because of their large size or their looks, these dogs are dangerous.
One of those pre-judged breeds is the German Shepherd. A lot of people get really intimidated by these dogs just because they are deployed for security and police work.
Kyza, a nine-month-old German Shepherd, is one of those dogs who are always judged because of her breed. Her owner, Michael Collins of the town of Tauranga in New Zealand, said that Kyza is always called dangerous by his neighbors. It saddens him to think that other people thought of him that way. In reality, Kyza is the sweetest ‘good boy’ there is.
According to Michael, some people perceive Kyza as unapproachable, probably because of his size. Michael also describes his beloved pet as a quiet dog – he does not bark and is usually unbothered by the things around him. Michael thinks these other traits make Kyza more “menacing” in the eyes of others.
But not in the eyes of one mailman! One morning, Michael noticed a postal worker stopped by their home and carefully approached their picket fence. From the window, he could see the mailman calling Kyza to him. He seemed to be “talking” to the gentle giant, before giving him a pat and a quick hug!
The next day, Michael saw the man do the same thing. He dropped off mail in the box then found time to be with his new friend. This has been the mailman’s daily routine since! It doesn’t matter if Michael has mail, the postal worker took his sweet time getting off his bike to visit Kyza.
The German Shepherd seems to enjoy the attention he got from his new human buddy. According to Michael, Kyza is not used to people coming up to him to give him friendly cuddles and pats. So he is always so excited every time he sees the mailman approach the fence. The video footage of the cute interaction has since gone viral – with people enjoying the special interaction between the kind postal worker and the gentle German Shepherd!
