Sometimes our instant decisions make all the difference.
Prue was a rescuer at Mission Paws’ible and was on her way home that night when a truck went past her. She noticed a bag got thrown out of the truck window. Prue saw something run across the street and cowered in the corner. She went to investigate and found a puppy.
She assumed that the people in the truck probably wanted to throw the puppy into the ravine. Luckily, a guardrail broke her fall. Somehow, she fell out and ran to safety.
Prue saw a terrified puppy who couldn’t stop shaking and crying. She had to get the puppy to safety. She couldn’t leave her there.
Somehow she had to think of something to get the puppy to trust her. She took a piece of lasagna from her car and offered it to the puppy.
She coaxed the puppy to eat. When she had her fill, the puppy seemed to relax. Prue was able to stroke her and lift her back to her car.
It was already late, so Prue had nowhere to bring her. She couldn’t get her home because she already had dogs. Her last option was to call a friend.
Prue asked her friend if she could take in the dog just for the night. She promised to get her to a foster home the next day.
The puppy stayed for a time at foster care. There she got to be herself and act like a puppy. She learned how to mingle with other dogs and people. She began to be friendly and have faith in people again.
Consequently, Maria adopted her and named her Ellie. She was so happy in her new home. She got to run freely on the beach. She received genuine love from her family.
Ellie’s future looks promising. Prue is so glad she had lasagna on that fateful night that she rescued Ellie. It’s the lasagna that made Ellie trust people for the first time.
