Rexi was part of a litter that consisted of ten puppies. They were born in the bedroom of their owner James Cassidy and his wife. The couple from Victorville, California, decided to give away most of the pups, but Rexi stayed with them. Among the other puppies in the litter, she was the one with a happy-go-lucky character that the couple adored.
Plus, they had another reason to keep her. Rexi looked fine when she was born. And up until she was six weeks old, they saw nothing different from the rest of the pups. Then they noticed that she had problems with her mobility.
Like chicken wings
James said that Rexi didn’t use one of her legs when she tried to move around. Its as if she couldn’t move it, and it affected the other legs as well. Then as she started growing, they noticed that her front legs were growing backward. He said that it looked like the pup had chicken wings.
As the days passed, her legs started to extend toward her back and past her ears. They finally decided to go to a vet who did a series of tests on her. They figured out that Rexi’s problem was neurological by nature.
The couple tried many different ways to help Rexi get over her problem. James would massage her legs regularly and try to stretch them to loosen the muscles. But they couldn’t put too much pressure when they do that as it gave the dog lots of pain and discomfort. They tried to do everything, but the problem persisted.
They even bought Rexi a wheelchair, but because of her unique condition, it didn’t fit well. So the kind couple decided to start a GoFundMe campaign that can attract designers and innovators to customize a wheelchair for her. They have reached their goal and are in the process of developing the equipment. Hopefully, they will be able to build it soon to give this happy dog the chance to live a full life.
