Penni is a pit bull that was owned and raised by drug peddlers. They thought that having such a breed would help them in their trade. But raising a dog was too much for them, and she was kept in the basement, neglected for years. When her owners had to move out, she was abandoned there.
The anxious pooch was sent to a local shelter and was about to be put on the kill list. Luckily, a nonprofit rescue group found her and took the dog out of there. They quickly got her a new home in New Jersey with a guy named Blaine DeLuca.
Scared and timid
From the very start, Blaine was informed that Penni grew up neglected and didn’t trust humans. She might have been abused too. The dog was very timid and scared of everything. It was going to be a lot of work to get through with her.
Despite all of that, Blaine accepted the challenge and welcomed Penni to his home. And as expected, the frightened dog kept to herself all the time, refusing to move or interact with her new dad. In the first six months, the poor pooch wouldn’t even make eye contact with her owner.
That didn’t discourage Blaine at all. He patiently waited to earn her trust.
Confident and adventurous
The major breakthrough happened when Blaine started taking Penni out for hikes. He took her to easy nature trails, and he saw that it had a good impact on the dog’s behavior. Penni started to become more relaxed and responsive to her dad’s affections. So he started taking her on hikes more often.
Blaine eventually decided to move to Las Vegas, where they have access to more nature trails. The two started going on hikes in more challenging trails. Penni has now transformed from what she was before. She is a different dog from when she was first found.
More importantly, she is now happy and living the life that she deserves.
