Corks has been abandoned and was suffering from severe leg injuries when he was rescued from the streets. The vets who treated him believed that he was not simply hit by a car, but the vehicle must have dragged him as well. His trauma was not only physical, which soon manifested during his stay in the shelter.
The injured pup became distrustful of people that he was deemed unadoptable. He seemed to have lost his trust and confidence in humans. They were about to put him to sleep, but luckily, Dogs Without Borders, a foster-based rescue organization in LA, stepped in and saved him.
While his physical body was healing well, his emotional being was not as easy to recover. Dogs Without Borders knew that Corks would require careful handling, lots of time, love, and affection. It took months before they found the perfect foster mom for him.
Brooke Wilson learned about Corks and volunteered to offer a temporary home for the wary pup. She soon realized that Corks was not accustomed to receiving affection and kindness. During the first few weeks that he was with her, the dog growls at everyone he meets, even at Brooke.
But Brooke did not give up on Corks. She showered him with constant care and affection that he soon learned to trust again. It took time and so much effort, slowly letting Corks get used to associating with others, but the result was worth it. The pup now enjoys cuddling and even greets Brooke with sweet doggy kisses.
Although Brooke initially offered just a temporary home for Corks, she now could not imagine her life without the adorable pup. The abandoned pup has now become a foster failure. Brooke admitted that it was challenging to care for an abused pup, but just as her experience showed, patience and love can bring miracles.
